Product INN: Natrii aminosalicylas dihydricus
Deva: 5.52 g powder for oral solutions
Product ATC Code: J04AA02
p-Aminosalicylate sodium 5.52 g powder for oral solution is a synthetic second-line agent generally used in combined chemotherapy regiments for the treatment of tuberculosis. p-Aminosalicylate sodium salt has bacteriostatic activity against tuberculosis mycobacteria. In combination with other medicines p-Aminosalicylate sodium salt is used for the treatment of tuberculosis of different forms and localization.
Product Mechanism of Action
PAS-Na Olainfarm of 5.52 g powder is a second-line synthetic antituberculotic with bacteriostatic activity against Micobacterium tuberculosis. Competition of PAS with structural analogue para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) at synthesis of folic acid, which is necessary for the process of growing and multiplication of Micobacterium tuberculosis, is the basis of bacteriostatic activity of the preparation. PAS replaces PABA in the process of synthesis of folic acid, as a result, normal synthesis of RNA, DNA and proteins of Micobacterium tuberculosis gets broken.
PAS-Na Olainfarm does not have effect on other microorganisms. To compete with PABA, PAS- sodium salt is necessary to use in high doses. PAS-sodium salt antituberculotic activity, as compared with the first-line preparations, is not so high, therefore, PAS-sodium salt is usually combined with other more effective antituberculotics. At monotherapy of the preparation Micobacterium tuberculosis rapidly develops resistance to PAS-sodium salt Olainfarm. In case of combined therapy mycobacteria drug resistance develops slower.
PAS-Na Olainfarm powder is used only in combined chemotherapy regiments with other medicines for the treatment of tuberculosis.
