Pyrazinamide Olainfarm is an antituberculosis agent used in combination with other antituberculosis agents for the treatment of all forms of tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It works by injuring or preventing the growth of certain bacteria that cause tuberculosis.
Your doctor will prescribe you also other atituberculosis medicines and apply the duration of treatment. Use the exact doses for the whole time as your doctor has told you.
Do not change the treatment regimen yourself without consulting your doctor.
The entire daily dose should be taken as a single dose before meals, with a sufficient quantity of liquid (for example, a glass of water).
The recommended doses of Pyrazinamide Olainfarm:
Daily regimen: 25 mg/kg (20-30 mg/kg) body weight as a single daily dose.
Minimum daily dose− 1.5 g; maximum daily dose – 2.5 g.
- for patients weighing less than 50 kg – 1.5 g as a single daily dose
- for patients weighing from 50 to 75 kg – 2.0 g as a single daily dose
- for patients weighing more than 75 kg – 2.5 g as a single daily dose
3 times weekly dosing regimen (only when the daily regimen is not possible): 35 (30-40) mg/kg body weight a day as a single dose.
Maximum daily dose – 2.5 g.
- for patients weighing less than 50 kg – 2.0 g a day.
- for patients weighing more than 50 kg – 2.5 g a day;
Using 2 times a week (only when the daily regimen is not possible) the dose is 50 mg/kg body weight a day.
- for patients weighing less than 50 kg – 3.0 g a day.
- for patients weighing more than 50 kg – 3.5 g a day;
2-3 times weekly dosing regimen is permissible only if for any reason it is not possible to ensure the daily regimen. Patients, who use the medicine 2 or 3 times a week, should have more frequent follow-up examinations to prevent complications.
WHO recommended dose is 35 (30 – 40) mg/kg body weight as a single daily dose.
Using 3 times a week the dose is 50 mg/kg body weight a day.
Children weighing more than 30 kg should be treated according to the current adult treatment doses.
3 times weekly dosing regimen for children is applicable only in exceptional cases.
Renal impairment: if you have renal impairment with creatinine clearance <30 mL/min, your doctor may want to change your dosing regimen to 25 mg/kg body weight 3 times a week as a single dose. In patients on haemodialysis pyrazinamide should be administered after the dialysis session in dialysis days.
Severe hepatic impairment: Pyrazinamide Olainfarm must not be used if you have severe liver problems.
Elderly (aged 65 and older): your doctor may monitor your treatment more closely and start the treatment at minimum daily dose, because of the greater frequency of decreased hepatic and/or renal function, and concomitant diseases or other drug therapy.
HIV infection: If you have HIV infection, you may need extending treatment.
